Harry Potter

Like many others around the world, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the latest and final Harry Potter. I picked up a copy around 9.30am, and read in fits and starts until I’d finished the whole thing! Now I don’t know what to do with myself! I was not disappointed, it was a great read. I think it’s one of the better ones, actually. There were a few times in previous books where I would skip passages, or even pages, but that wasn’t an issue with this one. I read every word, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was nowhere near as predictable as it could have been, although there was nothing startling about the plot either. I managed to get a bit teary a couple of times: there was a lot more emotion in this one. There were some quite touching moments, without being vomit-inducing. Overall, I was very impressed, and will probably revisit it in a few days time. There has been a lot of speculation as to whether or not there is space for the series to be resurrected in the future…..my impression is that there is no room for further sequels. It seems to me as though this is quite final, and I think that’s a good thing. It would be quite pointless to continue with the story as I feel that everything has been resolved in this one. I think it addresses all the main issues of previous books, and answers all remaining questions. There would be no point in continuing.

I’m off to see the new HP movie this afternoon: "Order of the Phoenix". We tried to get there last weekend, but it just didn’t happen. Hopefully this week will see fewer people, shorter queues, and everyone will be at home reading the new book! It’s almost like HP overload this weekend, I’ll be having withdrawals tomorrow!

Mollie has had a couple of friends over for a sleepover this weekend. That’s nice for her, because it doesn’t happen often, and she does enjoy it. I don’t enjoy it much, I find it a bit stressful having extra people in the house, but I have to say that their behaviour has been outstanding. Loud, full of giggles and pillow fights, but generally very good. They can eat! And drink! And did I mention that they were loud?
